I am worried about hackers stealing my login details. I know I should use a VPN but sometimes I forget. Are the apps themselves encrypted enough to protect my data?

The official app from https://vavada-india.net/en-in/app/ uses SSL encryption for all data transmission. It is definitely safer than using a browser which might cache your data. However, I would still strongly recommend using mobile data instead of hotel wifi for financial transactions just to be 100% safe.
