Honestly, I’ve noticed one common issue in a lot of projects people underestimate how detailed millwork planning really is. Cabinets, trims, wall panels, custom doors… all these things look simple on paper, but when the installation starts, suddenly measurements don’t match or materials were short ordered.

Most of the time, this happens because the millwork portion wasn’t given proper attention during the early takeoff stage. A good millwork takeoff helps catch all those tiny pieces that easily slip through the cracks. Without it, projects end up with delays, cost jumps, and a lot of frustration between teams.

I feel like contractors and builders who treat millwork as “minor work” eventually learn the hard way. It’s usually the small details that decide whether the space looks clean and professional or messy and rushed.

Curious to hear how others manage their millwork planning. Do you guys rely on detailed takeoffs or handle it manually on-site?
